Important Notice to all Benzing Express users.

Unfortunately, we have just found out that there is an issue regarding the Benzing Express clocks using software versions lower than 3.0.

Any clocks running software versions lower than 3.0 are going to experience problems with an "error code 212" which will not allow you to basket birds in the coming old bird series unless the clock is updated to at least a version 3.0 or higher.

To clear this error code a software update will be necessary.  It is possible to clear the error using either a 3.0 or 3.1 software version.

I have listed the steps below so that any of you who are capable of doing the downloads yourself can do so.

We can send the downloads to anyone wishing to have them.

First, you must have the Download program that makes it possible to do updates for Express clocks.  It can be found on the Benzing Utility Disc that comes with the Express clock, and you may be able to download it from Benzing's website via the Internet.

Or you can contact either me or Camille at Siegels and we will send you the latest download program.  Anything from Download 3.6 to 4.1 will do the job.

Second thing that is needed is the actual clock software update. Currently, version EUSE0301.bam is the latest file that Benzing has out for Express clocks.  To load this file it must be saved on your computer ( I save everything to my desktop for easy access).  When uploading the file from the internet or from an e-mail attachment that we send you, right click on the attachment and save the file somewhere easy to remember (like your desktop, best in a folder labeled "Benzing Express").

UPDATING:  Once the program is loaded and saved and the update files are loaded, here are the steps for updating the clocks:

1-Before plugging in the power to the club unit, attach the 9 pin serial cable to the back of the club unit (where it is normally connected for basketing/registering/evaluating race, etc.), then connect it to the back of the computer to the serial port connection.  The 9 pin cable has 5 holes on the top and 4 on the bottom.  Both ends of the cable are female ends (no prongs sticking out, just holes).  I tried a USB cable, but it did not work-it may need a driver to run correctly, I don't know for sure.  I had to use the 9 pin serial cable.

2-After downloading the Benzing Download program, start it up by double clicking the "Benzing Download 3.6 or 4.0 or 4.1 etc" icon and make sure it loads correctly.

3-Plug in the club unit.

4-Before plugging in the Benzing Express clock, turn it on and make sure that there are no races or training tosses active in the clock.  If there are, you will need to delete them before proceeding.

5-Now plug in the clock to the club unit

6-Open the Benzing Download Program (3.6 or higher) (it says "Benzing Freeware" and shows just a small box).

7-To use the program you will first need to select the correct port. To do this click on "Settings", then down to "Comport."  The program will show you all available COM ports, but you may have to try all of them to find out which one will actually work.

8-Start with COM1 and hit "select."

9- Now click on "File", then down to "Download."  The program will open with a split screen.  The left screen shows what software the clock is currently running and the right side screen is the "target" screen.

10-If it says "no answer from device," you have the wrong COM port.  Go back to Step 7 and repeat the steps and choose another COM port until data appears in the left "current" section.

11-As soon as the clock is recognized and data appears in the left section, the "open" button will highlight at the top of the window.  Click on that button and go to the place you saved the EUSE0301.bam file (on your desktop is the easiest) and click on it.

12-When that file is found and loaded, the "download" button will highlight on the "target" side.  Click on that button and wait.  Do not unplug the clock or do anything.  A progress bar will display the download progress.  It usually takes between 15 seconds and 2 minutes to upload a clock depending upon the speed of your computer.  The clock will beep and reboot and the clock will show the updated version US03.01.

We are sorry for this inconvenience. If you have any questions, comments or need assistance, feel free to contact either Ed or Camille at 1-800-437-4436.

Many thanks,
